A desk-scale mountain, thrown hollow and then eroded by hand over several weeks before a single firing.
$129
Scholar's Rock begins as a plain thrown form. Over two to three weeks the hollows are carved, opened through the wall, and then reworked repeatedly as the clay dries, so the openings develop an irregular, weather-worn edge rather than a cut one.
It is fired unglazed, which leaves the surface pale, matte and slightly granular. The piece is a deliberate contradiction: a manufactured object that behaves like a found one, and a landscape at the scale of a hand.
Dust with a soft dry brush — a dry paintbrush works well. Do not soak; the unglazed body absorbs water.
